We're not getting any younger...but we are getting stronger!
We are hoping to replace our current 30 year old kennels with a model of steel kennel we know to be effective. We presently have two kennels of this type and they have shown us their worth. They have stood up to the tests of various types of weather, escape artists, and general wear-and-tear. They are heavy, strong, and top covered. We know that these kennels would be a blessing to our staff and our furry friends!
The safety concerns are real...
At Good Shepherd Humane Society the utilization of outdoor kennels is extremely important to us. These kennels allow our dogs adequate outside time while we finish our cleaning and daily care routines. They also provide enrichment through new fresh air, sights, smells, and sounds to keep our dogs mentally stimulated and healthy. They could also act as overflow kennels in case of emergency. Unfortunately, our kennels, both indoor and outdoor, are starting to show their age with signs of rust and general decay. Our more talented escape artists are usually able to pull them apart pretty easily, leaving our kennel techs little to do but try to repair them with iron ties that also rust, spare kennel fronts or actual small pop-up crates, and chains. This is becoming unsafe for our animals, due to the possibility of ingesting or being cut on the rusting pieces or the possibility of getting stuck in escape attempts, and time consuming for our techs to fix every problem that pops up.
