Meet Turbo!
We would like to introduce you to Turbo. Turbo is one of the sweetest, most loving companions we have ever had. He loves kids and likes to play with other dogs (even though he can get rowdy sometimes), he's just a lover. Additionally, he is a very unique and smart dog and one of our longest stays. Our journey began with Turbo in August of 2022, when he came to our shelter for intake and we discovered that he is deaf. Upon this discovery, we put together his behavior plan which included our first experience in training a deaf dog. He blew our minds! He was so quick to pick up on the new signs he learned and so eager to perform his commands and get treats. Bonus Tip: he LOVES to play fetch!

Unfortunately, even though we do our best to make the shelter the most comfortable and stimulating environment we can for the dogs and cats that stay with us, it can still take a toll on our long-termers. As we are no kill shelter, our furry friends can stay as long as they need to until they find their perfect furever homes. Turbo has been with us for 10 months. He began experiencing frustration, accompanied by that are some behaviors that we have tried addressing with our knowledge of behavior modification as well as added enrichment to his behavior, but that can only do so much when he is still living in an environment that is not helping him mentally.
We did a deep dive into some research on the Dogs Playing For Life Advanced Dog Behavioral Support training session and we were ELATED! The program focuses on training from professionals who have worked with all different kinds of behaviors and dogs. He will be transported to Florida for this training and will also be exposed to a greater pool of potential fosters and adopters. This is crucial. Our shelter is located in a rural area between two towns of roughly 3,000 people each, therefore, giving Turbo a chance at exposure to new people will help him tremendously on his journey to find his family. The next available openings for Turbo to be able to join this program that will save his life are in August. We have also applied for a scholarship to reduce the cost of his trip and training session.

Since 1974 Good Shepherd Humane Society has proudly served the needs of local strays in Eureka Springs, AR. Whether educating the community on spaying and neutering their pets or caring for homeless animals in our animal shelter, we do all we can to help.
As the only no-kill shelter in the greater Carroll County area, we’re solely supported by the caring donations and funding provided by our community.
Good Shepherd has come a long way from its founding 40 years ago. It has had its up and downs and sometimes struggled to find its way, but we could not be prouder of the good it has done or the effective, professional organization that it has become.
