ABOUT HOUSTON HUMANE SOCIETY
Houston Humane Society (HHS) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization located in Houston, TX. We are on the front lines of animal welfare in our community, providing lifesaving care and support to pets and the people who love them. Situated in a high-needs area of Southeast Texas, our mission is to end the cruelty, abuse, and overpopulation of animals while providing the highest quality of life to the animals in our care. Through our shelter, adoption program, affordable clinic, and pet owner support services, we served more than 67,000 pets last year.
The grants and donations we receive directly support our lifesaving programs and services. Houston Humane Society receives no federal, state, or local government funding, nor do we receive operational funding from national humane organizations. We rely solely on donations, program services, and special events to continue our lifesaving work.
HHS has earned the Charity Navigator 4-star rating for our ability to efficiently manage and grow our finances, indicating HHS outperforms many charities in America in our efforts to operate in a fiscally responsible manner.

As a 501c3 nonprofit animal shelter, we rescue thousands of dogs each year, including many who are Heartworm-positive. Thankfully, Heartworm disease is curable - but treatment can be very expensive. The added expense of treating Heartworm disease is a deterrent for many adopters. That’s where you come in! We need YOUR help to achieve our goal of treating all Heartworm-positive dogs that enter our shelter and improve their chances of finding a forever home. We want every dog to live the happy, and healthy life they deserve.
