A breath of fresh air can do wonders!
Enrichment is a crucial part of our daily care routines at Good Shepherd. A key part of enrichment is access to outside time. This provides our animals with new sights, smells, and fresh air. We have three main cat rooms: The Lighthouse, The Alley, and Bates. 2/3 of our cat rooms currently have access to either big catios or small window catios. We would like to finish the job by bringing catios to our third and final cat room: The Alley. The Alley works partially as a maternity ward for moms and kittens on an interior wall with no windows while the exterior wall has 4 windows just waiting for some outside access. The cats on the exterior wall side of the alley have access to the window ledges, but it is a cramped space and we know they would love some fresh air!
We have just one more favor to ask...
While creating these changes for the benefit of our cat friends, we would also like to address the broken window in The Alley as well. This window is thankfully not attached to any of the cat kennels, however, it has proven to still be a risk. We have had one cat escape from it (don't worry-we got her back and she's happy in home!), but now it is completely unusable, lets in both cold and hot air at uncomfortable paces, is an escape hazard. We would love to check this off of the list of many repairs our 30 year old facility needs to improve the quality of life of our cats and kittens!
